Winners of the 32nd DEF competition

The international Days of European Film (DEF) festival today hosted its official awards ceremony at Cinema Přítomnost in Prague.

The main award for BEST FILM DEBUT went to the Hungarian film Black Dot (Fekete pont), directed by Bálint Szimler.

This social drama, set in a Hungarian elementary school, follows young Palkó, who moves from Germany and struggles to adapt to the local school system, while a young teacher named Juci attempts to challenge the status quo. The film was screened in the competitive debut section “First Time” and was previously awarded at the Locarno Film Festival.

The award was presented by producer Jiří Konečný.

The BEST MUSIC FILM award went to the Spanish documentary The Flamenco Guitar of Yerai Cortés, directed by Antón Álvarez.

A stylized portrait of flamenco guitarist Yerai Cortés, the film delves into both his music and his complex family background. It was part of the Music & Film competitive section and had already received the Goya Award for Best Documentary Film.

The award was presented by music journalist Anežka Horová.

The jury of the “First Time” section consisted of Antonie Formanová, Joanna Łapińska, Katalin Moldovai, Jiří Konečný, and Pavel Sladký.

The Music & Film jury included Jana Kománková, Anežka Horová, and Milan Cais.
